Medical

Medical tattoos are nothing else than just another tattoo, although it concerns patients that have been referred by doctors for instance to create an areola. These referrals are often for medical reasons!Medische tatoeage

Alopecia Areata
This is the official term for loss of hair. This means that patients loose their hair all over their body. Obviously this is rather traumatic and it means these people will have to wear a wig. This story makes very clear the difference between medical and cosmetic. Women with this illness will get eyebrows in the form of a tattoo. What we don’t do is to tattoo eyebrows on people that have no medical reasons. For privacy reasons we will not publish any photo’s of clients.

Rinus Birthmark or naevus
Birthmarks can occur anywhere on the body. Many people that we treat have birthmarks in their face, but also on hands or legs. In many cases people have had a long period of treatments with laser therapy before they come to us. Laser therapy does not work for every birthmark, a tattoo usually covers the birthmark very well and can give an amazing result. For many people who have had a birthmark in their faces it is a totally different way of life, they are not looked at for the way they look but for who they are! These patients are treated in an operating theatre of the Oosterschelde hospital in Goes. To tattoo someone’s face is inhuman without an anaesthetic, and since often eye lids must also be treated a full anaesthetic is often recommended.

Areola
In cases where a mastectomy has been carried out the plastic surgeon will often reconstruct a breast. The final operation includes the reconstruction of the areola. In the past this was often done with a skin graft, these days is often done with a tattoo. With a matching colour the areola is put back in the shape of a tattoo. Unfortunately it will never be quite the same, but by helping mother nature somewhat the result is often acceptable and gives closure to a difficult period for the patient!Rinus

Vitiligo (depigmentation of skin or hair)
Vitiligo is a very difficult skin disease to treat. Often we refuse to treat it as it could end up as a never ending treatment. Sometimes we treat someone who has Vitiligo in an awkward spot, like in their face or on their hands. The annoying thing is that the colour of the skin can be different after healing which makes it hard to choosing the right colour. We do not have photo’s of these cases as we don’t treat many cases.

Litteken Scars
Scars can be found on most people’s skin. However there are some scars which are so obvious and ugly that they should be camouflaged by skin colour. This happens through a referral from a plastic surgeon, as in most cases he cannot improve the look of scars with the scalpel. In most cases the scar becomes smoother after tattooing the skin. The result is an almost invisible scar. Of course it can never be hidden completely but it will not be obvious anymore, which is what most people are looking for. In the photo below the lighting is different but the scar is hardly visible from a distance and the patient is very satisfied with the result!
